Athletics


Football

Bethesda School began its foray into football with eight man football in 2004.  Just two years later, Bethesda fielded eleven man football, joining the Georgia Independent School Association in the single A division.  2008 brought the football team's first winning season, with the team making the GISA State play-offs and three athletes selected as GISA All-State.  Senior Daniel Wilson has signed a full scholarship to play football for Savannah State University and senior Tyrone Brinson has signed a full scholarship to play basketball for Abraham Baldwin College.

Basketball

Bethesda has created a solid reputation in a very short time in  high school Basketball.  The school fielded a team in 2003 with the Georgia Independent School Association and just finished its best season ever, with a record of 29 - 2.  For its second year in a row, Bethesda won the Regional Championship.  2008 also saw a repeat visit to the State Finals with Bethesda finishing GISA State Runner-up.  For the second year, two basketball athletes have been selected to the GISA All-State team and one player will go on to play college ball.

Track

Bethesda began to participate in GISA Track and Field in 2006.  In 2007, three Bethesda athletes finished 2nd in their events at the GISA State Track Meet. Senior Gary Byrd won First Place in the 2008 State Championship for shot put and discus.

Golf

Bethesda hosted a practice Golf team in 2007 and fielded an official GISA Golf Team in 2008.  Students currently play in golf matches throughout the region.

Middle School Athletics

Grades 6 - 8 students have been participating in SPAL Basketball since 1992.  Bethesda School is excited to be launching a Middle School Football Team in the fall of 2008.

Looking Ahead

Bethesda School will be launching a Baseball Team in 2009 for ages 14 and under anticipating that these athletes will then move up to form Bethesda's high school team.
