Admissions

Bethesda Home and School for Boys welcomes inquiries and applications from young men entering grades five through twelve. All inquiries and applications should be directed to the Admissions Director. Parents and potential applicants are encouraged to contact the Admissions Director to schedule a tour of Bethesda Home and School for Boys and an opportunity to ask questions, meet the faculty and visit with other students.

Many students feel that the best way to understand the unique mission and atmosphere of Bethesda is to spend a school day at Bethesda.  Parents may arrange this type of visit with the Director of Admissions.  The potential applicant will be teamed with a fellow student and will spend the day attending classes, eating lunch in the Dining Hall, participating in activities and touring the Cottages.  Parents may then pick up their child at the end of the school day.

Should a parent decide to apply for admission for their child, they may download the application from the Bethesda website or may request that an application be mailed to them.  Students may apply at any time during the year; however, for best consideration, it is advised that a student apply no later than March 1st to enter Bethesda at the beginning of the school year the following August.

Upon receipt of the application, a file will be established for the student.  In order to receive full consideration, the following items must be provided:

1.  Completed application.
2.  Transcript for school student is currently attending.
3.  Copy of test results from any standardized testing the student may have      completed. (example, CRCT, High School Graduation Test, ITBS, PSAT, SAT)
4.  Copy of IEP (Individual Educational Program), if applicable.

Upon receipt of these items, the applicant will be scheduled for placement testing and an interview with a member of the Bethesda Admissions Committee.  Placement testing requires approximately two hours and is offered on computer.  The interview is often completed immediately following the placement test.

The Admissions Committee is comprised of members of the faculty and administration representing each area of service of the Bethesda Home and School for Boys.  The members will review all materials of each applicant's file and will meet together to review the results of the applicant's interview.  The Admissions Committee will make a recommendation to the Principal for acceptance and placement.

Upon receipt of an offer of admission, the parent of the applicant is asked to provide a completed Financial Aid Application and a copy of the most recent Federal Income Tax Return for all adults in the household.  Tuition is based on a sliding scale and will be determined from review of these documents.  Parents who wish to pay the full tuition amount are not required to submit these documents.

Once the tuition amount has been established, parents will be offered a contract of enrollment.  In order to finalize registration, the following items must be provided to the Director of Admissions:

1.  Signed Enrollment Contract
2.  Completed Physical Examination Form.
3.  Test results for a tuberculosis test (Health Department).
4.  Copy of Health Insurance Card (Private, Medicare, Medicaid or PeachCare is accepted.)

Parents will be required to update all admissions forms annually.
